PRK Surgery

Advanced Photorefractive Keratectomy for Clear Vision Freedom

What is PRK Surgery?

Photorefractive Keratectomy (PRK) is an advanced laser eye surgery that corrects vision problems by reshaping the cornea using an excimer laser. Unlike LASIK, PRK doesn't create a corneal flap, making it suitable for patients with thin corneas or those involved in contact sports.

PRK can effectively treat nearsightedness (myopia), farsightedness (hyperopia), and astigmatism. The procedure removes the outer layer of the cornea (epithelium), reshapes the underlying corneal tissue, and allows the epithelium to regenerate naturally during healing.

While the initial recovery time is longer than LASIK, PRK offers excellent long-term visual outcomes with reduced risk of flap-related complications. Most patients achieve 20/20 vision or better within 3-6 months post-surgery.

Modern PRK techniques include advanced surface ablation methods like LASEK and Epi-LASIK, which provide faster healing and improved comfort compared to traditional PRK.

Patients with corneas too thin for LASIK but suitable for laser vision correction.

Contact Sports

Contact Sports Athletes

Individuals involved in boxing, martial arts, or other high-impact sports where corneal flap displacement is a concern.

Mild to Moderate Refractive Errors

Mild to Moderate Refractive Errors

Patients with nearsightedness up to -6.00 diopters, farsightedness up to +4.00 diopters, or astigmatism up to 4.00 diopters.

Corneal Irregularities

Corneal Irregularities

Patients with certain corneal conditions that make flap creation risky or impossible.

Previous Eye Surgery

Previous Eye Surgery

Patients who have undergone previous eye surgeries that make them unsuitable for LASIK.

No-Flap Preference

No-Flap Preference

Patients who prefer to avoid flap-related complications entirely, even if they're LASIK candidates.

No Flap Complications

No Flap Complications

Eliminates risks associated with corneal flap creation, displacement, or complications.

Suitable for Thin Corneas

Suitable for Thin Corneas

Provides vision correction option for patients who aren't LASIK candidates due to corneal thickness.

Excellent Long-term Results

Excellent Long-term Results

Proven track record of stable, predictable visual outcomes lasting many years.
